Perkins&Will’s New Vancouver Studio
Vancouver, BC • ~14,000 Square Feet
This year, global architecture and design firm Perkins&Will completed their new studio at 1075 West Georgia Street in the iconic Arthur Erickson Place. The renovation of the 22nd floor blends the building’s classic architecture with a design that prioritizes sustainability, well-being, and workplace trends, creating a space that fosters collaboration, flexibility, and employee wellness.
Project Details
The studio design adopted the building’s original vision, embracing a holistic approach to wellness. Key features like the offset halves, recessed windows, and softly lit coffered ceilings were preserved to maximize natural light and scenic views. Inspired by Canadian Artist Emily Carr’s Westcoast artwork, the colour and materials palette incorporate natural, healthy elements, including a green wall and warm earthy tones, creating a connection to nature throughout the space.
Employing a circular design approach, material components and parts from the previous studio were selected to be reused, reassembled, or reimagined for a variety of uses, such as desks and shelving. The careful design of the space reduced embodied carbon emissions by over 50%.
The studio’s design showcases how thoughtful adaptation, and an innovative approach can preserve architectural heritage while embracing sustainable, forward-thinking development.
