Introducing Arca Climate
Headquartered in Vancouver, BC, Arca is pioneering carbon mineralization technology to help stabilize the climate. A key part of this effort is Arca’s autonomous rovers, which use mine tailings to accelerate mineralization. By repurposing existing industrial sites, Arca eliminates the need for additional land use while supporting critical metal mines that are essential for the clean energy transition. Through strategic partnerships with over 30 mining companies worldwide, Arca is transforming billions of tonnes of rock into a powerful tool for combating climate change.

Recent awards include: Top 20 Finalist in the prestigious XPRIZE Carbon Removal Competition, Foresight 50 Honoree for three consecutive years, Startup of the Year at the 2024 BC Cleantech Awards, and 2023 CICE Changemaker Award recipient. Upgrading Arca’s Mount Pleasant Lab with Floorspace
As Arca continued to scale its operations, they needed a functional and well-designed space that could support both their research and growing team. That’s where Floorspace stepped in.
Floorspace’s Director of Workplace Solutions, Eva Phung, worked closely with Arca to design and build out their 7,000-square-foot Mount Pleasant lab and office space. From space planning to vendor coordination, Eva ensured the project met Arca’s unique needs while keeping construction on track.
The project involved a complete renovation of the lab, upgrading the building’s power infrastructure, and refreshing the office with new finishes, lighting, and security systems. Eva also coordinated IT and AV installations, ensuring the workspace was fully functional from day one. Her leadership in managing contractors, vendors, and building stakeholders kept everything running smoothly, minimizing disruption for Arca’s team.

Finding the Right Testing Site for Arca’s Carbon Removal Technology
In addition to their lab space, Arca needed an outdoor testing site for their carbon mineralization process. This was no ordinary requirement—Arca needed a bare piece of land where they could deposit gravel and test their CO2 capture technology. Finding a landlord open to this unconventional use, in the right location and within budget, was no small task.
Floorspace broker Robin Macdonald took on the challenge. With Arca’s specific zoning, geographic, and budget constraints, Robin leveraged his deep market knowledge to identify potential sites. After an extensive search, he secured a 21,000-square-foot plot in Central Burnaby owned by Boffo Developments.
Navigating the lease required careful coordination between Arca and the landlord to address zoning regulations, site logistics, and project feasibility. Robin worked through the details to ensure the space met Arca’s needs while aligning with the landlord’s requirements. The secured site provides Arca with the necessary space to advance their research and development efforts in carbon mineralization.
