Today, the company operates a 60,000 square foot Megafactory 1 in Surrey. As the business evolved from a student startup into one of Canada’s leading battery energy storage companies, finding the right facility became about more than securing additional space. It meant creating room to support advanced manufacturing, a growing team, and the company’s next stage of growth.

Beyond a Typical Industrial Facility
Moment Energy designs and manufactures battery energy storage systems using repurposed electric vehicle batteries. Unlike a traditional industrial user, the company required a facility that could support engineering, battery testing, manufacturing, assembly, warehousing, and collaboration under one roof.
The building also needed the industrial infrastructure to support battery repurposing and production at scale, while providing flexibility for continued growth as the business expanded.

Finding the Right Fit
Floorspace broker Christopher O’Neill worked alongside the Moment Energy team throughout the leasing process, helping identify and evaluate facilities that aligned with both the company’s operational needs and long-term vision.
Rather than simply securing additional square footage, the goal was to find a facility that would support the company’s next phase of growth while bringing key parts of the business together in one purpose-built location.

The result was a new 60,000-square-foot Innovation Centre and manufacturing facility in Surrey, creating a foundation for continued innovation while expanding Moment Energy’s manufacturing capabilities.
A Return to Surrey
For Moment Energy, opening its new megafactory in Surrey marked more than a move into a larger facility. It was a return to the city where the company’s story began.
The founders first met while studying at SFU Surrey, where they built their first battery prototype in a nearby garage. Years later, the company has returned to the community where those early ideas took shape, this time with a purpose-built manufacturing facility designed to support its continued growth.
What started as a student project in Surrey has grown into one of Canada’s leading battery energy storage companies.
